As opposed to my last position:

    6:45am: Leave for work.
7:45am: Arrive at work (Boss: You need to get in earlier!)
    No coffee break:
    Work through lunch:
    No coffee break:
6:30pm Leave work (Other Boss: Why are you leaving early? you’ll need to work weekends to make it up!)
    7:30pm Arrive home
7:45pm to bedtime: Bitch about getting a new job!!

Well, for starters, not getting a break and lunch is a violation of Federal law, so that needs to be changed, pronto. I used to have a boss who never came in until noon, in spite of the fact that the day started at 8:00. HE worked an 8 hour day, and expected US to stay until he was ready to go home. The CEO fixed that.

It may be the law that you get breaks and a lunch break but if you complain you’re out the door. My husband used to work 8 hours on his feet with NO break at all. Just because something is the law doesn’t mean it’s enforceable.

Dani, unfortunately there is no federal law requiring either lunch breaks or coffee breaks. I have checked the laws in my state (Minnesota) and the only requirement is that I be allowed to use a restroom. I haven’t had breaks at any of my jobs in years. I can eat at work, but can’t leave. Current job, I’m taking care of elderly people in their home – working 11 hour shifts. No break, I can’t leave. I’ve also worked in a tax office – 8 hr plus shifts. I have to help anyone who comes in. I can go into a small utility closet and take a bite of food, but have to come out if someone walks in the door.
