Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Val’s life is so domestically boring, she resents anyone else having a life outside parenthood. Which manifests her judgmental, self-righteous sense of how everyone else SHOULD live. She wants everyone doing the same ‘normal’ thing. Gotta say, sounds like she could be a republican. lol!

Exactly! I’m with Edie! At 74, my man still wants to keep doing all the work at his HVAC business. He says it keeps him in shape (I agree) but it keeps him 100s of miles from me unless I return there; somehow I think long distance is the best way because we can REALLY appreciate each other. More than 2 months of the year would be better, tho’.

Va-voom doesn’t mean “intimacy” in today’s comic. It just means excitement!
Wow, Cofyjunky, you have some issues that you’re projecting onto this comic. I don’t see any resentment from Val at all. She’s just asking questions because she’s curious. And speaking as a parent, I’m sure Val has plenty of excitement in her life and would love some calmness. Meanwhile, Evie has had a period of calmness and is ready for some excitement again. You go, Evie! Everyone should enjoy life (whatever that may mean to you)!

Old folks can still have any kind of Va-Voom they want, as long as they’re in shape for it
Used to have a neighbor who was in his late 70s and he had a girlfriend that would spend the night a few times a month
In the summer when all the windows were open we could here him shouting “Oh Golly!”
