Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

There’s no hope for Holly (in Holly’s opinion) to be redeemed.
IndyMan said, 4 months ago
Could it be that Holly doesn’t want to be redeemed because the way it is going she won’t have to write the paper. If she goes for redemption she is going to have to spend the weekend doing the paper.

Holly’s logic:
It’s the teacher’s fault, why?!
In the first place, had the teacher not try to bog down and encroach/invade on her personal free-time after spending 6+/-hours in school with homework/holiday-assignments, there be no need for blame…
-
If anybody ask, personal free-time for play/fun and holidays are sacred to children… and if they could, they’d defend it from anyone by any means necessary. I know would.

Sounds just like my daughter….sigh. Blame everyone but yourself and then run away.

There’s still hope-Holly did own up-that’s often impossible with many of today’s generation leaning towards the entitlement theory……hold firm Val, she’s trying the boundaries….one of these days she’ll come back to you and say, “Mom, you did right”-it just may take a decade or so……….

I never had that problem with my mom as a child.I just did my home work on time. Then again, we didn’t had all this foolishsness with computers to start with!

Val, she can’t write the paper over if she didn’t write it in the first place.

Apologize and rewrite the paper for partial credit? This is a potential reason for expulsion. I’m very surprised her teacher didn’t keep Holly at school and called Val in immediately to discuss this with her and the principal. I mean, she didn’t even call Val to tell her about this but instead relied on Holly to confess. That’s extremely weird.

If you are not willing to learn, No one can help you.
If you are determined to learn, No one can stop you.

I know it would be too dark to kill her off, but couldn’t they just Chuck Cunningham Holly? She’s an insufferable brat and her storylines are never funny.

See, it’s attitudes like that that make swift kicks to the posterior and slaps in faces so hard to resist!

It’s not fair. The other kids got passing grades by earning them. The teacher should take points away from them and give them to Holly so she can have her fair share.
Sound familiar?

That’s right! "The more points you get on a test the more you should “share” with your less fortunate – is all just luck, right? – students." Sounds even more familiar.
