Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Some students when I was in university copied other’s programs, but didn’t think to remove program comments “This program was made by X.Y” from the start of program text… which professors checked, of course.

I certainly hope Jan doesn’t back away from dealing with the punishment aspect of plagiarism. This is dreadfully serious. It indicates an approach to life. Look, I know it’s a comic strip, but if you’re going to write about this stuff, then have the courage to really write about it. The girl needs to be suspended from school, with parent conference required for re-admission, and (it goes w/o saying) an F in the class at least.

With all due respect, unless you are going to write a different comic, you really shouldn’t bash someone else’s.

I agree, but we are dealing with a comic strip so I don’t think we need to be as drastic as ‘jacqilove’ suggests but still in the bounds of the venue of a comic strip. Detention, F, and parent-teacher-student-principal conference. Three weeks grounding with the writing of a new paper.

Eh, Jan leaves that to Linc Pierce — Nate gets these on regular basis.

I agree with jacquilove. Ms. Eliot ventured into this topic, and how she wraps it up will say something about her beliefs and values in terms of ethics. Stay tuned….

I agree. I tell my university students there are consequences and when a professor says we have ways of knowing that you have plagarized we mean it
