Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Yes up a bit late are they?

If the girls are still up then Phil got Val home before curfew. That just isn’t right.

@Night-Gaunt49
Considering that’s a waning crescent moon (which rises in the wee hours!), it must be shortly before sunrise!

Well spotted! Unfortunately, one cannot count on astronomical accuracy in cartoons. aaving the moon in the frame just indicates general night-time, usually “late.”

Just think of it as a strobe light… (see the B-52’s song about a strobe light) ;-)

Nope, that phase is the waxing cresent, so she’s home pretty early. The waning cresent is turned the othe way.

Come on, whomever it is, Val is a ‘big girl’ and has a right to some privacy!!!

Phil is a very patient man. He’s put up with a lot for this relationship and not from Val, from her family.

What the heck? What are they, sixteen or something? They should have done this in a car with a bench seat in front of the lake, with the windows all steamed up and a sheriff tapping on the window with a flashlight. But then Val will show up disheveled, with the clothes stretched out and misbuttoned, or whatever and it will be a bad example for her daughters.

“They should have done this in a car with a bench seat in front of the lake, with the windows all steamed up and a sheriff tapping on the window with a flashlight. ’Sad to say, a car with a bench seat is long gone, a cop with a 6-cell still exists, but they make so much noise with all the radio chatter and reflective decals, they couldn’t sneak up on a dead moose without tipping off their game.. Such is MY
early experience..Lucky me.. the ignition caught on the first twirl, we left in a cloud of sand, dust and a cop faced the wrong way to turn around and pursue.. Good times, good times….
