Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Actually, my brother is a policeman. He makes four times what I earn in a job in private industry. Likewise, my mother was a school teacher and she earned a respectable salary, too. I guess it’s all relative. If you’re comparing a policeman’s salary with, say, that of Bill Gates, or a UAW auto worker, it’s pathetic. But if you compare it with the salary of your average working stiff, or the laborers in some Mom and Pop market, it looks pretty darned good.

I sometimes wonder, where do all the people in Paris dream of visiting? I vaguely remember a story about an Aga Khan, saying that as a boy he wanted to visit places with exotic-sounding names like In-di-a-na, I-ow-a . . .

If I’m gonna get shot at, I want money – lots of money. (And that includes our military, thank you very much.)

Actually, it would be nice for Val to have some professional success. A promotion to something she’s into doing or very goos at. Would make a cool story line.

How about someplace really exotic – like Mississippi? Or is it Missouri? I never could get those two straight.

I have no interest in travel anymore, tho’ I would if he wanted to. Anyplace we share a bed is fine with me (tho’ some are more comfortable than others) ;-D

These two don’t even see each other that often. It’s a whole different thing compared to Wally and Val’s sister.

Yep…I’ve always been taught, its not what you make, it’s what you do with what you make.
