Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Just so you don’t do it any more for a long while.

Ooo, would never have thought Wally would stoop to guilting! Gotta watch those optimists!

Halloween candy tastes better.

But, isn’t Andy just a little too old to have gone trick-or-ttreating?

I had a sum total of 4 trick or treaters and none of them was under 13.

I bought two big bowls of candy for Halloween and no one came round. Gave half to the two girls and the rest is mine, mine, ALL MINE!!

The-day-AFTER-Halloween candy tastes best. And fifty percent off.

Wow, that’s too bad that some of you didn’t get trick-or-treaters! A lot of kids trick-or-treat here, so I know it’s not that parents won’t let them do it anymore. Maybe there’s just not a lot of kids in your area? Anyway, enjoy your extra candy! :-)

I shot twelve zombies before somebody explained why they were all carrying candy…

Wally is so right! How else can you eat a varied assortment of all different kinds of sweets, without having to buy ten or more large bags.

Indeed!

And then there’s the guilt factor: No one saw you buy any of that candy. In fact, you never even obtained it. You’re just sharing it.
