Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Holly was so wrapped up in her argument that she wasn’t LISTENING! She should be thanking Alix backwards & forwards!

Let’s be honest: how many people really think Holly has won this argument?

Maybe Mo-om will embarrass her so much, she won’t want to shop for a costume after all.

Time for mom to find out that almost all girl costumes make them look like Ho’s.

It’s sad, isn’t it? I looked all over for a tasteful costume and there are not many of them for females.

Agreed. If a girl wants a really great costume, she has to make it herself these days. Of course, with the cheap materials used in store-bought costumes, everyone is better off making their own.

I at least like it that the girl’s have temporarily forgotten the ‘Halloween Candy’. I do agree with everyone concerning ‘Halloween’ costumes!!!!

Neither is my answer. Holly said shop creatively… Does not said buy a costume. My guess is they may shop at Salvation Army…My kids do. My son created a badass Vampire look for about 25$ but then is 18 not 13 and it is his own money. Make wonder for a budget lol!

I’ve seen the idea for SOME female Halloween costumes and I always groan since there is NO WAY on earth that I’m gonna wear one of them. So, I typically go for the male version, which is much more decent, or I find a way to make it myself.

An orange jumpsuit and borrow a pit of cuffsfrom Phill. That should please Holly.

Just to get my female friend going I was going to dress up as a lady of the evening.
PS I’m a guy. My hairy legs would have ruined the "look’

When I was young my sainted mother made all my costumes and her work was above professional quality. One time I went as Professor Fate from The Great Race. She researched the movie (this was before the Internet) and made an authentic costume, complete with top hat and a realistic moustache and eyebrows. The upshot was that I could never understand why somebody would go to a store and pay money to get a costume that looked nothing like Spider Man for example but which had a picture of Spider Man on it.

Val is a mom. Moms always win in the end.
Remember YOUR mom?
I rest my case.

Absolutely! I made all 3 of my grandkids’ costumes – mermaid, Peter Pan (from the book, not the Disney film) and Catwoman (from latest film).
