Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Why? WHY?? Is she really asking THAT? Val, give it a break girl! Be glad someone loves you in spite of two kids, an opinionated/eccentric mother, and a sister and brother-in-law who are right next door! Sheesh!

Phil, just get the ring. It won’t help any. Val gets as long as she needs to come up with the answer “Yes”
.
I speak from personal experience.

BECAUSE YOU’RE WORTH LOVING, VAL! Now, pause a moment, and then tell him You love Him!
Honestly, the two of you are as bad as teens sometimes.

No, no, she’s got a legit reason for asking. He thought she DIDN’T hear him say it. If a person says something important to another, knowing they likely wouldn’t hear it, then does the sayer MEAN IT??

This is great, but I don’t think a ring is in order immediately after the sentiment is expressed.

@Jenn
That was my ex’s favourite trick. Tell me while I was sleeping, or while she was in a different part of the house, or sometimes while she was driving to work, and then it was my fault for not knowing.

I talk a little from personal experience.
.
An uncle knew this person for quite some time, I don’t know what their relationship was. When he proposed, she replied “When?” They were married within a week.
.
I have a platonic female friend. Where it’s going to go I don’t know but I do know that if her eyes open it will be a short time between the “I love you” and the ring.

I hope Phil is at home and not at the cop shop with all the guys around.
