Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

If you’ve got good biceps they won’t notice your butt.

She was more concerned about the baggy shorts hiding her butt.

Skinny arms + big butt = can’t do pushups, no, not one. (From one who knows.)

Then they will do passing and rebounding drills. Then they will run sprints back and forth and then laps around the gym. Her gorgeous jump shot will have to be practiced on her own time.

I personally believe that having the kids do 100 pushups right off the bat like that is too much. Exercise needs to be increased gradually, especially when you’re dealing with people who haven’t really been exercising up to that point.

Just one more reason why I did marching band in the summer when I was in high school.

I suspect that 100 really means as many as you can do…
