Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

It probably wouldn’t look any better if you took them OUT of those dumb baggy shorts.

If she doesn’t work up a good sweat, then basketball camp will have been a waste of time for the coach as well as Holly. And she won’t have learned the important lessons to be the “girl who plays sports.”

She cares more about the balls than the baskets.

My girls used to do their hair and make up to go to the swimming pool. I don’t understand teen-aged girls – and I was one!

@Kab Buch
You really don’t understand teenage boys do you? Raging hormones in BOTH genders.
Doctor11 said, 11 months ago
I prefer playing basketball against girls since you’re less likely to get clobbered with someone’s elbow, unless said girl happens to be a jerk. Never mind.

And when they got to the pool they never even got wet.

Mom ought to be glad that Holly wants deodorant, stuff to make her look [what she thinks is] good, etc. Beats having to push ’em toward the tub while wearing your gas mask and having to fumigate their clothes (exaggeration alert, kind of).

She should have checked that camp out better. Now she is going to have to outlay a lot of cash for cosmetics.
