Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Now you know, Holly, how your mother, aunt and grandmother feel when they do it. No appreciation whatsoever from you.

Like that was so hard. Or better yet Holly, heat it in the microwave.

Give her a break. She remembered to turn on the oven. I think.

I half expected her to just microwave it. Works in a pinch.

@GatoCat
Nope. Don’t have to if it’s not condensed! Look at the size of that can.

Make it gourmet, Holly, and add some spices or a sprig of parsley! ;-)

She definitely needs an attitude adjustment!

All afternoon reducing stock, dicing vegetables, hand rolling little pasta footballs. Simmer and stir every 15 minutes or so.
Or dump some mushy, salty stuff in a pan…

I love how the effort of dumping soup into the pan causes Holly to have to stick her tongue out

Don’t worry Holly. With all those germs floating around in the air, you will come down with the same sickness as all the others. Then, they can cater to you!

more directions needed.
how long do you heat it? what stovetop setting should you use? after it is heated, then what? do you eat it out of the pan or put it in a bowl? what kind of bowl? what color bowl? do you drink it or use a spoon? how large a spoon?
if you need directions on how to cook soup, you need PLENTY of directions

Yebbut the soup went “plop” in the pot instead of “splat.” I think it needs water. Still, gotta give Holly credit for soldiering on.

It’s easy to get spoiled by the modern technology. I find myself resenting microwave dinners that get ‘complicated’ with extra steps, like: “Heat 2 minutes, remove film, stir, re-cover, heat for 2 more minutes.”
