Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

I don’t wear a belt, just suspenders. Does that make me a ner, or an erd?

My father told me a well dressed man wore both suspenders and belt. Of course he never owned a pair of sneakers in his life, but he owned bow ties.

So Wally’s casual look is to wear his shirt outside his pants with no belt? Wait til he sees how much more comfortable that is.

No matter how cool he thinks he looks when he tries to sit in one of the student’s seats at school the coolness will be gone

I don’t get it.

What? No boxers pulled way up and over the top of his holy, baggy pants?

To change the subject, I’m glad to see (in the first panel) that contrary to Alix and Holly’s expectations, Joan’s kids are being good as gold. Actually, this is how they behave at least 95% of the time that we see them in the strip.

Holly with a positive attitude, contrary to anyone’s expectations. Go, you!

The_JAM,
I don’t get it either. Is he trying to look cool or like a bedraggled parent?
