Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Take your time, Grandma, and live life to the fullest. You’re better off without those ingrate grandkids…
IncredibleWerekitty said, 26 days ago
Never mind the ingrate daughter. >.>

Oh, I think the daughter seems VERY grateful!
(But not as grateful as she’ll be when Grandma gets back …)

Absolutely, rayannina.

She needs to get married and stop harrasing her mom!

Alix isn’t such an ingrate. Holly is terrible though… Val just has a busy life as a working, single mom. She’s doing the best she can, and she does provide a home for Grandma.

Oh man, I dunno if I can last a month without the white haired lady… I may have to start reading Pluggers again…

Grandma does have a life of her own. And she’s doing something to help others, it’s not like she’s off on some cruise though there would be nothing wrong with that.

It just goes to show, you’re NEVER too old to need your mom.

detour_jones – but maybe we’ll get to strips about grandma’s adventures in Thailand :)

You always need your parents and even more so after they are gone.
vawser said, 25 days ago
That is the plan, as I understand it. Jan Eliot is actually going to Thailand to help build a Habitat home, and will be using her experiences there as inspiration for Gramma’s trip.

One of the reasons, among many, that draw me to this strip is that I feel it’s very real–the characters are like ones I have met, they have foibles I understand, and the humor really reflects that.

And now I know how you knew two weeks ago that Evie was going to Thailand! Thanks vawser!
