Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Great answer grandma! You’re never too old to learn new things and have new experiences.

Go for the gusto gramma!
You’re not old till the fat lady sings at your funeral.
Or something like that.

My parents went on similar trips until Dad died, and Mom went on her last one when she was 79. (Dad had died a year earlier.)

You couldn’t TIE my Mom down- she took her camper from the Al-Can high way all the way down to the tip of Mexico. Flew to every continent all after she retired.
Sure miss her.

I think Val is supportive–she’s asking her Mom, not lambasting her for it.

Why does Val care?
It’s simple, where else is she about to find a babysitter at a reasonable as what her Mother charges (nothing).

Just stay out of the southern part. Bad things going on down there.

When I die, I want to go like my granddad did, asleep and peaceful - not like his passengers.

Not that old, 71, but made a first trip to South Africa this year and going back next year. This was too perfect for my situation!!! Thank you, Jan.
