Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Val: Hi, sis...I thought you had a SITTER. Luci: BUH! Joan: She cancelled. Joan: But don't worry...it's Luci's naptime. She'll sleep in the stroller. BUN BUN Val: I was hoping we could TALK. Luci: BUH BUH BUH BUH BUH Joan: We CAN! She'll be fine...what's UP? Val: Well, I wanted to ask you about - Luci: Buh! Buh! Buh! Buh! Joan: BUH! BUH! BUH! Val: She's getting really VOCAL. Luci: BUH! BUH! BUH! BUH! BUH! Joan: She wants so much to TALK. Buh! Buh! Val: SO DO I!! Luci: Buh buh Waitress: Sheesh, lady, GROW UP. She's just a baby.
Val totally has my sympathy here. She really telegraphed her desire – “I thought you had a sitter” “I wanted to talk” – & Joan reassured her – “It’s her nap time” – & then ignored what she had just heard & said. It’s also obvious that Val appears to be the bad guy to the waitress. I doubt Joan is going to take the hit. Not Joan’s best moment.
