Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Sharing the burdens: just another part of a happy (?) marriage …

It’s part of a functional family - she obviously can’t do that herself or she would have.

When you have a family, it’s never “a quick stop at the store”.

I swear, this comic strip is more effective than any birth control….

Does the store Wally plans to pick these up from have a “salad/soup bar” which also offers roasted chicken?
If so, he can do one-stop.

It is easier for one person to go and get the week’s groceries than if you have to bring the kids especially when one is a baby.

Gee, it makes me feel like the breadwinner when she interrupts me at work to bring home bread.

One stop grocery store has all including cooked chicken.
I remember days like that. Mine are grown now.

kab2rb: Your days or your chickens? XD

Funny maybe both.

I’ve learned to email my hubby with the list, if there is more than one item. Then he can print it out and take it to the store with him.
Now that the kids are older, so shopping isn’t as difficult for me, he will email (even with pictures) the details on what he needs from a speciality store if I’m going into the city where the store is located.
A good marriage is a partnership.

My wife doesn’t need to either e-mail or phone shopping lists to me, since we share an office and share shopping trips. Of course her kids are all grown (before I married her–longtime bachelor) so this scenario has completely passed me by. Partnership we are, however, both at work and at home.

Right, Macush - I had no idea of how much stuff was required to go somewhere with a baby until we had one….

Texting works wonders, if it can’t fit 140 characters, it’s not on the list.
