Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Too true to be funny.

True indeed - but note that Wally’s the one who keeps going up to sort the kids out. What a guy!

Yea, noticed that too. They make Joan look like she does a lot, but she’s kinda lazy. get up and deal with your kids, and for god’s sake, know your place.

I’m proud of Wally. He could teach John (For better or for worse) a thing or two.

How can you say Joan is lazy? She has both kids to look after all day when Wally is at work!

Joan and Wally seem to be very content with their assignments of duties, and I think they’re very well matched.

It’s nice to see a dad help. I so enjoy this strip.
FBOFW John is so dense and will not help Elli out.
SS is very refreshing.

Pardon me AOD, but it is not a woman’s “place’ to be the only one taking care of the children. We don’t live in the 50’s anymore. This strip shows a man being a REAL father and caring for not only his children but his wife and allowing her to have a little break. Parenthood is a partnership, not one persons job. All men should be so loving towards their families.

Phil’s lucky - if he marries Val, he gets Holly’s attitude and emotional storms and Alix’s occasional snarkiness … but he misses the Terrible Twos (assuming he and Val don’t start another one…)

About the FBOFW comments, you need to remember those strips are in rerun now. They were written in the early 80’s. Today’s John is a much evolved man! And today’s strip illustrates why I don’t host many dinners at my home! :)

It takes two to run a marriage, and it takes two to raise kids. If you can’t support each other, you’ve got a problem.
( take that from the male member of the species )
