Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Reminds me of that Calvin & Hobbes one where he’s called on when daydreaming. I still say “1492!” when I don’t know an answer to a question.

This brings back Memories of my HS Junior English Class.
True Story:
I sat in 1st chair three rows from door. I became Hypnotized while watching Ms. Tucker pace back and forth in front of the class as she lectured.
In mid-sentence, She said in a loud voice; “TIGGER. WAKE UP!”
I bolted upright in my seat, and yes, my fellow classmates chuckled at me.

She gave an answer to an arithmetic question – Grandma’s home schooling must have had some effect!

First weeks of classes, I wear an “Ask Me” badge to help out lost freshmen. Any time I get a smarta$$ question (usually from faculty) I tell them “42.”
