Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Isn’t that the only time parents can get peace and quiet?

@LibraryLady (4 Sept.): Alix (with an “i”) has nothing to do with Alexandra. It is a medieval French form of Alice, which is related to Adelaide

Don’t worry Macush; they loaded the car “Indian stule”, so there is an overloaded cooler in all that stuff in panel 2!

I grok Val (is that how you say it? It’s been a long time since I read Stranger in a Strange Land).
Yes, I see the cooler. It seems to be upside down, half of it resting on Holly’s head and the other half poking out the window.
Why would anyone think that Phil comes from the future? When I last saw him (only a few days ago, I think), he looked very solid, very “right here, right now” to me!

unless what I’m looking at isn’t a cooler, but part of a float?
oh, well, who cares, summer is coming closer to its end…
