Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Where’s Holly?

Offscreen, batting her eyes at high-school boys …
… who are ignoring her completely.

How ironic that today is the first day of school for us, so this is now a weekend-only enjoyment.

Looks like fun.

rayaninna, another possibility: Evie “assigned” Holly a book-report to do as “homework”.

Local schools here start next Monday and others around 19 on. Lightenup you beat me to the punch. On the news for the weekend there is a school has a short summer break already started. Kids had better enjoy summer break its almost over.

I took my 3yr old granddaughter swimming in her wading pool yesterday, BBQed, just enjoyed the day. She had so much fun and I loved watching her! Yup. Gotta love August….

I do like gocomics and reading comments. I am not a regular though for writing. Since gocomics changed I had to sign in since I got behind. Also I think gocomics in general has put virus on our computer. Our computer is very slow.

As I have mentioned before, I count ten people in this strip who are major characters, plus the dog, Biscuit. I see only six people, and no dog. And they’re all having such a good time - I’d love to join them! (And is that little Luci, sitting up beside the enormous turtle? She’s growing fast, isn’t she!)
So who’s missing besides Holly and Biscuit? Val, Wally, and Phil (Val’s significant other). What these three have in common is that they’re probably all at (shudder) WORK.
Oh, well. Where I live it has been raining practically every day this summer - let’s hope it turns out better in the few weeks of August that we have left.

And @kab2rb, I don’t think you got a virus from gocomics. Do you have a virus protector program? There’s a good one at avg.com, but you have to take care that you’re not BUYING the program, only downloading the FREE version. If you know where to get help about this, ask someone. I can’t help with the details, because I haven’t been using this program for a while. So I don’t know if you can still get a free version that you can still use indefinitely.

Have you been checking the “remember me” box kab2rb–also which browser are you using?
If your browser if IE, its retention time is rather short (I’ve had to sign-in again to lots of sites–sometimes, due to multitabbing, I’ve had to do this even same-day) whereas Firefox tends to retain remembered ID’s much longer (not infinity but…lots longer than IE).

We’re going to have a whole week of these, aren’t we? I guess Jan’s taking it easy along with her characters.
See you Sunday.

kab2rb: 2 great FREE programs - Avast from Alwil; free anti-virus protection that really works, and “Advanced System Care”, from IObit Information Technology that will keep your computer tuned up and clean. I strongly recommend these two free programs; just make sure you click on the “free for home use” versions.

We had a record-setting heatwave for July. Now it’s August and it’s freezing!!
(I use Avast and think it’s great!)

use the “Free Software” Tab on the menu bar

kab2rb I’ve had several virus try to get on my computer from this site (my virus software stopped them). I find I haven’t had those kind of problems since switching to firefox. I still won’t pay for this site until they do a better job at screening the ads they show.

We are using Avast but a Trogan (not sure if spelled right) got in my husband has informed me grumply he got rid of trogan . Has slowed our computer down greatly and I have a lot to catch up on including go comics. I have been applying for jobs on line and this takes way to long. I have been getting great information from different people who use gocomics and I do so appreciate this. One of the tid bits I shared with others and where I work at pt is about the computer screen. Akenta I won’t pay either. Everyone thanks so much for the information. I will have my son and my daughters boyfriend help with this.

kab2rb: A lot of adware/spyware will slow down your computer also - this is what Advanced System Care will clean up for you. You need to run programs like these at least once a month (I do it once a week). Virus protection won’t stop all the garbage your computer picks up from the internet of which you’re unaware.
For great, easy to understand info about all this go to “How-To Geek on the internet (howtogeek.com). Many clear, easy to understand “help” articles. You can search through his archives, and, if you want, sign up for his free newsletter. A wonderful source of info.

Kab2rb, it’s Trojan but yes.
Akenta, I’m a paying customer here and guess - I don’t see a single ad.
Haven’t had any problems with trojans or viruses, but then I’m on a mac :P
