Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Paris, TX looks like it has some good camping and it has its own version of the Eiffel Tower! Plus, I would think that the natives would be nicer.

I’ve been to Paris 4 or 5 times and the Parisians are perfectly nice, with a few exceptions :)

Are you taking Holly and Alix? Maybe they have some ideas of where they’d like to go.

Taking Holly and Alix?? I thought this was supposed to be a VACATION! :-)

Vacation? I’m gonna need the dictionary. I don’t know what that is.

Take Evie (mum) to help you camp Val–she’ll know how to do it with least materiel and labour!

She could go anywhere that doesn’t include Aliz and Holly.
Let grandma keep them in line.

Continuity time: Val has a steady job with serious responsibility, and her mother paid down her mortgage when she won the lottery a few years ago. How broke can she be? Maybe not Paris, but surely a long weekend in New York or San Francisco could be in reach….

Where is her boyfriend?

Why is it that Luci has gone from conception to birth to smiling, and Max has gone from age 2 to age 3, but Alix is perpetually 8 and every September Holly goes to middle school? (speaking of continuity)

Val’s working contract after she got laid off. I think Val is putting everything she has into raising her kids. Hope Phil shows up soon, he’s been gone a long time, he’s due for a life changing moment. LOL

Haven’t been to Paris TX, and I’m sure it’s lovely, but I did spend a few weeks in Paris, France in the summers of 2006 and 2007 and highly recommend a visit to the City of Light . The Parisians I encountered were always civil and direct, usually courteous and often helpful—on occasion volunteering to help with directions when they noticed me studying street maps. I only encountered one rude local, a waiter who was arrogantly annoyed when I didn’t order wine with lunch, and that happens daily at restaurants all over the world. Paris is a fascinating, magnificent city that will not disappoint.
