Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

It’s actually twice the size of Texas. Now she can be even more depressed.

I know what my Zen Buddhist students would say: “Throw some dirt on that thing and you’ve got the start of a new continent!” Zen Buddhists always see the up side.

Twice the size of Texas, getting larger all the time, and destroying more marine wildlife every second.
Hey, Skyhawk-maintainer: I envy you your transportation!
Gonna get me one someday.

Though the trash does tend to accumulate, the plastics break down very quickly to microscopic particles. There is no “Texas size island” of plastic; there’s probably not even enough to call it Rhode Island sized.
Never get your information primarily from comics.

Yes, while I keep up with the news, I’m starting to avoid depressing websites too.
@wantobe. I don’t believe what random guys say either.

wantobe is right, just ask any Texan and they will tell you there is nothing as big as Texas.

Don’t mess with Texas.

Listen to the podcast. He doesn’t make unsupported assertions. Of course, if mere logic and facts don’t convince you, that’s another story.

Andy Garrison came up with the phrase ‘compassion fatigue’ as to why some charities are having problems raising cash: we just get tired of hearing all the sob stories…..

I can see why BakaBard. You want to help everyone but you can’t and it’s frustrating.

There are other things news is covering and I don’t agree with. Like the econmy is recovering. Ask all the laid off workers. Once someone benefits are gone someones is no longer a statistic and the government thinks someone has gone to work and someone has not.
Been there with my dad.
