Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Why does Luci only have hair on the top of her head? It looks like the rest has been shaved.

Luci’s hair has always been something of a baby fade–I think it really hasn’t started growing in yet.

It does not take long before your mind turns to mush when you are surounded by the drool machines.

Ms. Eliot, are you gonna age Luci to run around with Max or keep her an infant?

CoBass, hope you’re reading today: thanks for the tip about urbandictionary, I passed it on to my daughter who works with immigrants.

I remember bits of baby talk slipping in at work. My supervisor kept reminding me that professionals don’t use the term “boo-boo.”

@harebell - You’re welcome!

I think we’re weird parents…the words “num num” have never crossed my lips and we use phrases like “artistic decision” in answering the “whys” of our three-year-old.

Well arsmall, Jan will age Luciābut timeframe of Stone Soup is 1 year of strip-time = 3 years real-time.
Is “num-num” Joan-speak for “Nanaimo-bar”?
(admittedly, it doesn’t look like that’s the case)

In the deleted fourth panel Joan hands Luci back and says, “Guess who made poo-poo?”
