Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Reason #478 why I don’t want children. I’m getting a headache just reading this comic!

This is why I ALWAYS tell newly-weds; “RENT a couple kids FIRST to see if you’d like them! - If not, you can return them and not be ‘out’ anything!”

Mine talked at an early age and haven’t stopped. I spend half my time interrupting conversations telling them not to interrupt.

I hear you Ana Demeter. I’m so glad I didn’t have kids, I would never have the patience for this.

You must learn to embrace the suck. I have ten children, and looking back at it, I wouldn’t do it differently. But I would like to have had some peace and quiet…and disposable income…and a retirement account…
Some species really do eat their young…
But seriously, I understand Joan’s dilemna…

WE spend the first two years of a kids’ life teaching him or her to talk and walk, and the next 18 years to shut up and sit down…

in the end its worth it. kids make your day even if you want to strangle them some time. when they look at you and tell you “I Love You” you know its true and they are sweet at times.

I had 5 boys in 7 years…and I wish I was back being a “Mom” again. It was the best time of my life. Now I have 12 grandchildren but don’t get to see most of them as often as I would like. But, that’s an individual (or couples) choice. You have to decide what would make you happy.

Tabbylynn, you’re going to be a fabulous teacher and mom.

What Joan is experiencing is why I never wanted to start up a home-based business (at least when our kids were babies/toddlers). My Dad thought I should, but I knew babies take more attention than he realized. Probably would have started a home-based business once the kids were in school, if we hadn’t decided to homeschool. I’ve never regretted quitting my job to be a full-time Mom, especially now that my kids are teens and still like to be around me!

Comments and borrowing someone else’s kids don’t make the person a good or bad parent. It’s actions situations, reactions and what actually transpires with one’s own brood.
