Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Did you really expect sympathy, Val? You should ask Holly, “If I’m old, what does that make grandma?”

Growing old is no fun, but it beats the alternative.

Makes Grandma a crazy old coot that throws flower pots at people’s heads, Macushlalondra.

As my mother reminds me, (she’s 71) I may be old, but I’m not dead! She usually says this when she sees a handsome man. Totally nauseates my grown children! Me? I’m used to it!

Joy618– Holly’s Grandma threw flower pots at her and Alix when she asked her why old people were into gardening. May 31st strip. Not a bad arm for an old lady. Ooops, incoming!
