Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Don’t bank on it, Holly. Wait until school starts in September and you’re repeating the same grade.

I don’t see much in this girl’s future to smile about.

“Oh by-the-way, I signed you up to babysit Max and Luci–so Alix can enjoy one more summer”.

Holly’s going to have two career choices:
1) The next Anna Nicole
or
2)Welfare Queen.
My votes on 2 since that way the only labor she ever has to do is in stirrups.

Val hasn’t figured it out YET, but no way will Holly get to coast all summer.

As that great juorist “Judge Judy” has said:
“Looks fade, but dumb is forever.”

No one ages in this strip … she’ll repeat the same grade whether or not she goes to summer school!

Or, Val could get Wally, the under-employed accountant to tutor Holly for a fee…
