Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

What IS going on in that panel with Wally & Max, and something green’s over them? Was Wally carrying something and he tripped and now it’s going to crash on them?

I notice that everyone’s clothes are constantly changing, in colour and style. Is this just the whim of the artist? or is it meant to show how relaxed, free and easy everyone feels on this day?

YES … that is what i see …looks like an armload of aluminum siding that obscured his vision. There is a rock in contact with the toe of his boot and his other leg is in the air. -in the process of tripping with the siding up in the air.
all in all a memorable good day!

But who is that person in the second panel in the second row, who is screeching in shock? (The eraser on the pencil lies on top of the top of this snapshot.) Andy maybe?
The person beside him, who is just barely visible, seems to be Wally…?

Rina They are looking at old photographs. That’s why the clothes keep changing.

It’s all in the last frame. It’s raining outside, so they’ve spent the day with old photographs and old memories (and chocolate chip cookies.)
