Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

An hour with THOSE kids IS a week.

Is Luci weaned yet? Because that could make things very difficult (gross understatement) for Val.

She’s still in diapers which would nix the idea where I’m concerned.

What’s the worse that could happen Joan? Max falling out of a tree and landing on his head, or falling out of a tree and dangling upside down with a rope around his leg, or this time he’ll fall out of the tree with a rope around his neck.

Wow, eatteaphonenome, that’s overreacting a bit… They are so sick that they can barely take care of themselves, and Val is her sister, so it’s not like she’s a stranger. Plus Holly and Alix can take care of themselves and/or help with the younger ones. From your reaction, I’m guessing that you must wrap your kids in bubble wrap every day to protect them from the “life threatening dangers” that exist everywhere (or you don’t have kids).
