Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

I also liked the story arc where the kids helped their Aunt work on building a house for a homeless family one summer.

It’s nice what they’re all doing. Maybe they can get their friends and neighbours involved. I hope at some point we can learn this lady’s backstory.

The elements of humanity mixed with humor are the reason I found this strip so appealing several years ago when I started reading it. I am very happy she’s never lost that.

pibfan868, you summarize the essence of Stone Soup very well. It’s why Stone Soup is my very favourite cartoon.

Could someone please tell me how to set up an avatar?

RinaFarina –
Click on the “My Profile” tab at the top of the page. When your profile opens, Click on “Edit Avatar” under the square where the avatar goes. Follow directions. You’ll have to import a graphic or picture you like from somewhere. Hope this helps.

It’s nice to see good people doing the right thing for other good people, maybe more people will get involved in volunteering as a result!
