Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Veggies aren’t food. Veggies are what food eats.

I’m not interested in sustaining “our fragile planet” because the big dumb rock will get along perfectly well without us, if we let it come to that. What I’m interested in sustaining is ME!
(Oh, selfish am I? Damned right and proud of it!)
On the other hand, she does have a point about the cholesterol, and you can disguise those things to be almost tasty. The garlic-flavored ones are best.

I agree and the Morningstar Farms sausages aren’t bad either.

I don’t mind going meatless, but I object to “fake meat”.

Man, like bears, is an omnivore.
Not an herbivore or a carnivore.

yep, the Bocas are very good, and we’re also addicted to the Morningstar fakin’ bacon strips - we don’t like to eat pork, and we actually prefer the crispier texture! Despite my bread comment yesterday, plus my kids’ & grandkids insisting you need white bread (also grape jelly and chocolate milk) for genuine pbj’s , I’d rather have wholegrain for everything else… Some veggie people may live longer but it may be correlative to the total healthier lifestyles of those who may choose it. Live in a veggie community (we did) with high-strung, sedentary people living on cheese, chips, wine, and sweets, and you’ll see those particular vegetarians go to their rewards pretty early too…..

By the way, when someone want me to stop eating beef and eat veggies, I point to a cow and say, “What do they eat?” Of course, the response is, “Grass.” So, I reply, “Well, I eat processed grass!”
bigmitchperez said, 7 months ago
hey, jimeguess, my dad used to say that all the time:’i let the cows eat the veggies, and i eat the cows”
tasha_medved said, 7 months ago
jimeguess, processed grass is what comes out of the other end of the cow.

Amazing which topics generate a record number of comments!
Homemade burgers can be a lot healthier than the ones from the Beef&Barf.
