It’s either “I suffered so you should, too” or “I’m paranoid and you shuld be, too.”

Almost on nail, runar; it’s actually “you want smooth sailing after the squalls you dragged me through? Nope, handle your own squalls (that your children give you)!”

Obviously being a grandparent is a lot more fun than being a parent. Or, payback is sweet!

Insanity (def.) A heredity condition that you get from your kids.

Hasn’t every parent said “I hope you have kids just like you!”??

i can say that ” i hope my kids dont turn out like this” all the time because i babysit and i would beat the kid if it was mine and talked that way or this way. it could be bad.

runar & prasinirava, Sadly your comments hold a lot of truth. That stems from, I believe, parents thinking that their children are their property, their belongings, where they were merely instruments that gave them lives. If parents realized kids belong to a higher power & they should be raised & treated in accordance with those higher & heavenly rules, there wouldn’t be so much scarring, hopefully.

Nozzi, although it seems I am not as devout as you are, I do agree that parents should see that their role is to help a child to develop into a decent adult. Children are not precious possessions to be put in protective plastic strictly for display purposes.

burgandy2, oh, but you want to put them in protective plastic cases, even though you can’t, because you love them so much (or should) and want to keep them safe, and keep them from repeating your mistakes, but alas, you can’t! Imagine how our parents felt, and now we know what they went through with us!

@Macushlalondra, my mother used to tell me, “I hope you have kids just like Calvin!”
