Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

You ain’t gonna always get what you want, Val (anyone remember when you had to finish an item you despised due to it being on the plate?).

Val’s first mistake is thinking that Holly’s “reasonable” is going to be the same as her definition. (panel 2)

Val does need to remind Holly that she is the parent and therefore has the upper hand.

Know how you get them to pay attention? Unplug ‘em from their gadgets.

For Alayne: I hope Val has a separate plan (including company) for Holly than her own; then it would be even easier–simply “forget” to pay Holly’s bill!

Not sure Holly is too worried in panel 2 about being reasonable
