Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Go back and punch Calvin in the face, and than kick him when he’s down. Maybe you could even steal Hobbes while he’s recovering.
At least thats the first thing I thought when I read this.

Isn’t this the idea behind a movie that is supposed to come out?

Ha ha ha. Alix isn’t into liking the boys yet, Holly. Don’t you remember being her age? Wasn’t too long ago!

I remember being Alix’s age and when some boy punched me a friend said that means he likes you. Oh yeah right. That’s an adolescent boy’s way of showing affection.

i dont get breakfast, i live with my dad and little brother, so im the only girl. i get up first and most of the time im in bed last. when i get up in the morning i dont feel like fixing breakfast. so i go without it all day and eat lunch when i get home from school.
~Honey, how can you go all day without eating? Can you make yourself a sandwich the night before to take to school? I’m concerned about that. I grew up in the 1950s, with a Mom that made sure we had a good breakfast, and lunch for school each day.
P. S. what grade are you in, in school?
Hey Margueritem: how are you today? i am a SR in High School this year, super excited. Once you start going without eatting you get used to it. most days i get out of school at 12:30 and home by 12:40 so i eat around lunch time. Other days if i get to hungry i give in and go to the snack machines. i thought about bringing lunch to school, but we are not allowed, we had a problem with people in school last year or year before last when someone brought alcohol to school, so that is out of the question. i am always chasing my 2 year old cousin so i am used of not eatting, doesn’t bother me, just drink plenty of water, and im fine. My mom fixes breakfast when i am at her house but that is 2 days out of the month, some weekends i get up and make breakfast because “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” others i dont. No need to worry, by the way thanks. You dont even know me and you were worried, u must be a great person.

tabbylynn: Yes, I was concerned about you going all day without eating. I thought you didn’t get home until 2:30 or 3:00 pm. You do get home around lunch time, so that’s not so bad. Could you buy some breakfast or nutrition bars of some sort to eat on the way to school in the morning?
So you’re a senior. What are your plans after you graduate?
Thank you for the compliment, but I’m just an average person. I was just worried about you going without food all day.

i could give you my email and we could email instead of checking back here all the time, if you would like.
i want to be a teacher. :D i want to teach 1,2 or 3rd grade no higher to much drama. haha. i could probley get something like that to eat on the way, never thought about it. thanks. i do on some days go without eatting but not often. no need to worry. i thought it was quite strange how the first comment i saw had my name on it on Calvin and hobbes. then i got here it seemed like you were so worried, you have to be a great person, thanks again.

wuztwo, you must be a complete idiot! Certainly too heartless to be reading comic strips, they don’t seem to go with your nature!

Tabbylynn, I just wanted to express my admiration for your attitude. When Margueritem expressed concern regarding your eating habits, many people would have had a “none of your business” attitude. You’ve shown maturity and insightfulness to recognize her concern for what it was and appreciate it. I can guarantee that your maturity and insightfulness will put you in good stead for your future endeavours. Good Luck.

university of Louisiana at Lafayette. filling out application right now, last min. very bad start. truly excited about it. swore at one time i would never be a teacher but things change and plans are permanent, not to turn this into calvin and hobbes but someone had a different plan for me then what i had in mind. I truly enjoy being around kids and teaching them. it will be fun.

I lived in Louisiana for a few years with the Military and loved my time there. It was definitely an improvement from my current situation (back home in New York City). You’ll make a Great Teacher, hands down. Remember, Teachers are the people kids remember most. (P.S.- Thank You Ms. Demontae, wherever you are!!)
