Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

It seems like you got 1 out of 3 there Val, judging by Holly’s and Alix’ scowlsnarls.

They should be thankful for a mom who makes their breakfast. When I was Holly’s age I didn’t have anyone to do that for me and I went without breakfast most of the time. I was simply too lazy to get up a bit earlier and get it for myself.

i dont get breakfast, i live with my dad and little brother, so im the only girl. i get up first and most of the time im in bed last. when i get up in the morning i dont feel like fixing breakfast. so i go without it all day and eat lunch when i get home from school.

Macush and tabbylynn I feel for you. When I was a kid breakfast was only a Saturday and Sunday thing. When I joined the Military they taught me Breakfast was to be eaten WITHOUT FAIL! Now that I’m a grown-up I ensure that my two nephews (ages 8 and 4) will NEVER be without breakfast in the morning! I cook for them and show everyone else involved that this is how healthy kids are supposed to be raised.

~Honey, how can you go all day without eating? Can you make yourself a sandwich the night before to take to school? I’m concerned about that. I grew up in the 1950s, with a Mom that made sure we had a good breakfast, and lunch for school each day.
P. S. what grade are you in, in school?
