Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

They’re not Holly and Alix’s brother and sister so they are not really obligated. They should be paid to babysit.

If they are related they are obligated. Cousins and aunts and uncles count as free sitters. Brothers and sisters are just higher up the call list is all.

Ha Ha. I’d take the baby over the biting boy any day! Yes, I think they should get paid too, especially with having to put up with Max! ;)

No way they should get paid. They live close enough & play with them often enough that they’re freebie babysitters!

you only get paid for babysitting if you are an unrelated teenager in the neighbourhood that needs to be bribed! As a teenager, I made lots of money baby sitting. When my brother had kids and my best friend had kids, suddenly, my babysitting services became “free”

uh-oh Holly and Alix, don’t try to tell Mom you don’t need to supply free child care as Lucy/Max are not your brother or sister. Mom may use the same response to you when you want your buddies to come along and be looked after and/or fed by Mom on mall trips, beach days, day trips, overnight stays, etc…….
