Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

pixilcat,
I like what you said. The goodwife and I try to have a date at least once a month. You know, an out of the way bistro, soft music, wine, smiles.

so they’re returning home from being out for New Year’s eve and the kids are still up? Must have been some breakfast they had :)

What does he mean they couldn’t date anymore? Any time you can get out of the house for a while (and in some cases get away from the kids) and be by yourselves it can be a date. Even if it’s just going out for a cup of coffee and a snackie. I’ve heard of some couples who can’t even afford that so they go out on the back porch and talk.

Speaking of dates, I got to take the little misses out for a nice dinner.
It’s the 23rd anniversary. She’ll be pleased I remembered…

Obviously, panel 2 implies Phil could move in with her.
