Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Now, lets tie alix to the tree so nothing else happens to her tonight.

geez, it’s not like she was even REALLY choking. You’re ony choking if you can’t breathe. Alix was coughing, so thusly she was also breathing.

Choking could well have been the next step. Even if Alix didn’t choke, she was frightened. For once Holly stepped up to the plate and even afterwards didn’t do the drama queen bit. Good enough for me.

I don’t think Alex was coughing, more like squeaking. Either way, Go Holly!

Knowing Holly, that would be a ‘yes’.

I’ve had both kinds of choking - where something was stuck but I could still make some noise, and the complete blockage sort. Both were very scary and both require the heimlich maneuver.

What a silly thing to argue about. How else was Miss Eliot supposed to let the reader know that Alix was choking? Make her face turn blue?

I enjoyed this one. That is love. Brought tears to my eyes, really.
