Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

I’d like a toasted jalapeno bagel with cream cheese and a big cup of cocoa… sigh… my reality involves a howling infant and a very chilly morning commute on a motorcycle.

Being someone who used to work and is now home on long-term sickness, I enjoy the freedom to do what I want (or can, at any rate) but I’d often exchange it in a heartbeat to going back to work. Darned if you do, etc… !

Sung to the tune of the hot dog song- Introducing my original!
Oh gee, I’m really glad I’m not a mommy,
A mommy’s what I never want to be;
‘Cause if I ever were to be a mommy,
There would soon be nothing left of me.

Boardnutters you are soooooo right! But Val’s girls are old enough to take care of a few things themselves. Let them help with laundry so they have clean underwear and take care of the dog’s mess, it’s their dog isn’t it?

I definetly imagine some sort of classical orchestra music playing in the third panel and then go to an abrupt stop in the fourth.

I’m a grad student and mother to a toddler. Most days, the toddler is less exhausting.
