Wally: Joan? Where's the checkbook? Joan: Um....in the car? I'm not sure. Wally: Could you find it? I need the register so I can see what checks you've written. Joan: Um...I don't really use the register. Wally: Then - how do you know how much money there is?? Joan: I stop writing checks for a week, then call the bank to ask for a balance, then put that amount in the register...after deducting $50.00 "just in case". Wally: I'm not really...comfortable with that. Joan: OK. I'll stop doing it. Wally: So...you'll enter the checks in the register as you write them? Joan: Oh, that's never going to happen.
I used a checkbook with carbon sheets so that I had an exact copy of what I wrote on the check, back when I used checks more than once a year
