Anyone who thinks that Ahmadinejad calls the shots in Iran is pretty far out of touch with the reality there from all I hear from my Iranian acquaintances.
The Soviets/Russians understood what they had to loose, just as the Americans did. The threat of mutual destruction may have kept both sides in check. The so called rouge states may not see things the same way, and security may not be as tight. “The bomb” could fall into the hands of someone who feels it is more important to eliminate their enemy even, if it means their own people may all die because of it. It’s that whole martyr attitude. The liner notes for the Offspring’s Conspiracy of One CD conveyed that sentiment my more eloquently than I can. I have it around here /somewhere/…
Rogue states, Jase99. A rogue is a scoundrel or a thief; rouge is a kind of makeup.
Technically, you are right, but imo the actual Iranian leadership is far from the image you can get by Ahmadinejad’s absurdities creates. They may have an ideology they espouce (then again, so did the Soviets - after all, the entire USSR was based on the ideal of spreading communism), but they haven’t gotten to where they are by being suicidal, or downright stupid. That kind of people end up with a suicide belt, not a country leader’s office.
The thing is, Iran is allowed to use uranium for power plants. If there is conclusive proof they are using it for anything else, we can talk - right now there isn’t.

What is the Mohammedan penance for a gross lie?
When you get to the afterlife, maybe you’ll be able to tell us.

The Russians had the bomb and more power and yet they were not fool enough to use it.
