I’m genuinely surprised the faux patriotism, empty flag waving, and chants of “support our troops” didn’t end the second Obama was sworn into office. I thought for sure Fox “News” pundits would have made it Obama’s fault we hadn’t “won” in Iraq and Afghanistan yet.

There is no way for us to win Afghanistan. The Taliban will wait us out just as they did the Soviets. You know, back when we were “friends” with the Taliban and gave them weapons. I think it was somewhere around the time we were also “friends” with and supplying weapons to Hussein and Noriega.

There was no Taliban when the Mujahadin (with US weapons) ran the USSR out of Dodge. The Taliban grew out of the vacuum left went we cut of the aid and the war lords went back to being war lords. I remember MSM articles about how “righteous” they were. No one gave a $h¡t until they started blowing up buddas

Thing is, it isn’t just us there. We’ve got the NATO bit involved, and other people really are worried about things like the stability of Pakistan. It isn’t something we can do or not unilaterally anymore.

fennec, yes, I’ve been reading up more and was surprised by how much more the Afghanistan war was like the 91 Gulf War with many other countries involved.

Plenty of ground in the United States as I remember - some 9642611 square kilometres, in fact. No need for that country to ask for more ground - for oil pipelines or whatever reason - in Afghanistan….
