“I can’t, the [Media]Libs like me too much and it keeps the Obama bumblers out of the headlines.”

Is that a sword or a phallic?
motivemagus said, 4 months ago
Pup - that’s just dumb. No “Libs” like Sanford.

Puppy, go ask Sen. John “Family Values” Ensign how nice it was to be knocked out of the headlines for his story of hypocrisy.
Speaking of hypocrisy, do you ever read what you write?
Corosive Frog said, 4 months ago
That is NOT news.
HOWGOZIT said, 4 months ago
Speaking of hypocrisy–John Edwards. One is as bad as the other 28; none worse than the other
Corosive Frog said, 4 months ago
John Edwards was not news either.

Howie, while their acts are similar, the hypocrisy comes more from how they previously presented themselves to the public. While obviously no politician is going to say they’re pro-adultery, take a look at Ensign’s history:
“A staunch “family values” voting record who opposes abortion rights, wants to re-instate teacher-led prayer in public schools, and steps up to the nearest podium to denounce other public officials who engage in private sexual misconduct. He is also active in the Promise Keepers movement, and according to one news report, “resists temptation” by not being alone in a room with a woman other than his wife.”
“In the midst of the imbroglio over Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, for instance, the Nevada Republican loudly denounced the president’s actions and describe the affair as “an embarrassing moment for the country…” Ensign demanded that Mr. Clinton resign from office…”
How does this compare to Edwards?

A Bush supporter is calling the Obama Administration a bunch of bumblers???? Bush and Co did nothing BUT bumble. Well, that and all that illegal stuff.
churchillwasright said, 4 months ago
What’s the problem here. They should all be scorned. Sanford will be (ultimately), Edwards got a pass, and Clinton’s a hero.

Republicans have all been crooks since Nixon, unrepentant scoff laws of one sort or another. Their platform is the country for the rich, for the rich, and for the rich, all others be damned. This is why among other things we are the only developed country without public health care and Obama’s reforms (which the Republicans along with chicken livered Democrats will probably defeat) are too mediocre to cover the millions who must chose between food and shelter or making the insurance executives richer.
HOWGOZIT said, 4 months ago
C’mon Dr28–give yourself some credibility and quit with the “wanted Clinton to resign” as your only hypocrisy with politicians. At least I say they all are wrong–you only believe Republicans are hypocritical. I guess in your view Democrts do not preach or vote “family values.” Clinton lied and perjured–not a good choice for your hypocrisy soap box.
Corosive Frog said, 4 months ago
churchill; Clinton is not a hero, he’s better than Bush (and that’s setting the bar quite low).

Howie, I think the Republicans, via their fundie christian component, do preach family values more than the Democrats, and in the case of their numerous marital transgressions, does make them more hypocritical.
As does their constant push to legislate the “protection of marriage” by denying marriage to gays. How much more hypocritical can you get? If they were honest and felt marriage really needed protection, then they’d be pushing for legislation to ban divorce and criminalize adultery.
But that would cramp their style.
Simon_Jester said, 4 months ago
C’mon Sanford…if Sarah Palin can quit, so can you.
HOWGOZIT said, 4 months ago
Sorry Anthony–you keep saying the Republicans this and that and deny marriage to gays. I am a Republican and could care less about gays getting married/benefits. I take it you mean the Republican politicians and not the Republican voters.

I’m obviously not talking about individuals. But whenever you see some anti-gay legislation being put forth, it’s a safe bet that a Republican is the one pushing it.
And overall, more Republicans are anti-gay than Democrats, both voters and politicians.
HOWGOZIT said, 4 months ago
I think you are generalizing Dr28 when you say the voters are anti-gay. What is the overall count in CA?
Anthony 2816

Of course I’m generalizing. That’s what one does when one refers to entire groups.
Overall count of what?

What makes Sanford worse is saying in public that his mistress was his “soul mate” and he would have to try to learn to love his wife again. Why would she want him back???

I think this is one hysterical toon. and nomad, thanks for the tip, I hadn’t noticed it (pun intended).
This guy is one of the biggest narcissists around! The more he talks, the worse it gets. He’s appalling! I can’t understand why his wife would think about staying together. The philandering is bad enough, but his interview with the AP reporter was so galling, like he thinks he’s some tragic Shakespearean figure!
Yep, another one bites the dust

Repubs vs Dems in CA in regard to the voting on gay marriage/rights

Fortunately, you caught me in a generous mood:

The two most important characteristics determining the vote were party identification and ideology.
Those self describing as Democrats or Liberals, overwhelmingly opposed Prop 8. Those self describing as Republicans or Conservatives, overwhelmingly supported California Proposition 8.
The third most important characteristic determining the vote was religiosity.
Those attending religious services every week, supported Prop 8 by 70% while those attending once a month opposed it by 52% and those hardly ever attending opposed it by 70%.
The fourth most important characteristic determining the vote was age.
All the ages groups opposed Prop 8, except for those 65+ who supported it by 67%.
As importantly, when compared to another marriage initiative in California in 2000 (the Knight initiative), all age groups increased their support of same sex marriage equality in 2008—except for those 65 years of age or older.
African Americans and Latinos supported Prop 8 by 58 and 59% respectively—not 70% plus as reported in an exit poll on November 4, 2008.
Furthermore, their vote correlates more with religiosity than race.
Contrary to popular belief, knowing an LGBT person was not a significant factor in opposing California Proposition 8.
