What’s funny is that I’ve been reading in the media non-stop for weeks about how nobody is saying anything about Gosnell.

Another RWNJ "CONservative lie. It is this way only because they say it is, because that is what they believe. However it is not reality

Is Gosnell the guy who used the Fast & Furious program to attack Benghazi?

    Good one.
You know it doesn’t do any good to make anti abortion laws because women who want abortions will get them anyway.

Using Gosnell as an argument against legal abortion is like using al-Qaeda as an argument against religion. Also, the pro-choice community has been covering this story in depth for months now.

I was satirizing the gun nuts who say making gun laws doesn’t do any good.
But it is true women will still get abortions even when you crazies pass dozens of anti abortion laws.

cdedward has my favorite comment so far.
I heard about this monster Gosnell on NPR a week before I ever read ANYTHING in print. Joe Scarborough was talking about the case nearly daily before the Boston bombings. When I first saw the cartoons on this issue, it was presented as a failure of local media to talk about it. Over the weeks, the story seems to be less about how a monster like Gosnell was able to function without regulation, inspection, or prosecution from his patient/victims and seems to be about how the media is apparently “protecting” him.
    ^
    What IS the story here?
The cartoon is obvious. A crime was committed and the liberal media, in an effort to protect abortionists, is aiding and abetting the criminals. That’s part of the story, but I suggest this…
    ^
A man, masquerading as a doctor, victimized women and killed viable fetuses after the legally established time. The city that licensed and taxed his office failed to inspect him and protect the people in the community from his greed and lack of ethics.
A responsible media would be finding out how this occurred and what the city is going to do to make sure it does not happen again. I’d like to see that cartoon one day.
    ^
A friend of our family had a baby born at 18 weeks. It could have worn the father’s wedding band as a bracelet. After many months of infant ICU, they have brought their child home.
Ten years ago, that baby would not have survived. It has been born into a family that wants it, can afford it, and is looking forward to being its parents.
I wish all unborn children were so fortunate. At least we can show love and compassion to the ones who have arrived among us.
    Respectfully,
    C.

“‘Gun nuts’ are not saying “making laws doesn’t do any good,” they are saying the laws aren’t being enforced.”

    -
No, they’re saying background checks don’t work because criminals don’t go through them.

    Good comment C.

Hope all goes well with your friends child.

The problem I have here is why nobody in the media is criticizing these “mothers” who were disgusting enough to request an abortion in the 6th or 7th month of pregnancy. Yes, its also sick that this “doctor”, who presumably took the Hippocratic Oath, would fulfill these murderous requests.

I know this topic makes journalists uncomfortable, due to their overwhelmingly liberal views, but they must report the news accurately.

Many casual news observers only get their info from their local tv news and, outside of Philadelphia, there has been almost no coverage of this trial.

    You were somewhat harsh.
    .
While your arguments are intellectually sound, but it ignores the reality that back alley abortions would be beyond gruesome.
    .
While the left tosses around the word “choice” like some fat guy in a suit wants to keep women from picking out a china pattern, the reality is that most women come to this decision out of desperation and live with the consequences for years to come.
    .
If we as people of faith want to end abortion, we need to work on the culture and end the “need” for abortions, so we don’t end up seeing pictures of mutilated women with botched abortions in our evening news.

For many reasons, Gosnell should have lost his license decades ago. Yes, he his a criminal, with no moral ethic.

But, considering this “viable fetus thing”. My nephew and his wife wanted children and went the in vitro route. They ended up with triplets as a result of multiple embryo implants which is common practice (think Octomom). When they took their three year old triplets in for a “reunion” with all the parents that had done in vitro in the SAME YEAR at that hospital, all resulted in double or triple births. Of 42 couples they were one of only THREE of FORTY TWO couples who did not have at least one child with SERIOUS physical or developmental problems as a result of the “nature” of their fertilization and birth. While my nephew’s “family” only cost around $200,000 to accomplish, most of those with multiples will end up with MILLIONS OF DOLLARS iN MEDICAL BIllS, by the time the kids are teenagers.

While my grand-niece and her two brothers just became teenagers last week, and are all three doing well, I can’t help but think of what has happened to the couples in the 39 cases were at least one and in some cases, all three children born as a result of in vitro have CP, mental retardation, or other serious physical disabilities.

Sometimes the definition of “cruelty” and “misguided fools” needs further assessment.

So you’ve already forgot about Bush’s “Faith Based Initiative” programs.

    http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/government/fbci/president-initiative.html

Not to mention “Abstinence Only Education” programs that lie about condom effectiveness.

Where are you getting your information?

If Gosnell’s victims were attractive, young & white, cable news would have been all over this. Face it: Fox, CNN & MSNBC are all about driving up their ratings, not presenting much actual news.

The story was reported in the Washington Post, NY Times & Time Magazine over two years ago. You can’t get much more national than that. This story should be about the victims & making sure abortion providers are regularly inspected. Kelley couldn’t care less about the victims.

    @ Ansonia –
that might have been the first time I heard of it, Ansonia. I watch Fox less than hour a week, but try to catch their “headlines” and don’t recall seeing it there either. They show CNN and Fox at the gym and didn’t see it while on the treadmill. I know I didn’t see it on the networks or local tv. I periodically check out the websites as well. The only places I’ve really seen anything about this story is NPR, Morning Jo, & after Joe some limited play on other programs there, & GC. NPR has had several stories on it, but unless I go online and look it up, it’s not been on any of the news shows I peruse. Good question, and one I’d liked better answered. The media kinds sucks. Liberal and Conservative alike. Like Congress, they get their money from corporations and their “news” from people willing to talk in front of a camera. That’s why they interview themselves so much. Makes you wonder how often they hear, “If you run that story, you won’t get any pharmacy commercials to fund your operation.”
    ^
@ ConservGov – always nice to have a chance to find common ground with you CG, even if its nuanced. You know I vote pro-choice but pray pro-life. I have NEVER heard of a woman having a multiple, medically necessary abortions, I have read fewer than five cases. If someone can provide a link to a site that explains why a woman would choose a surgical procedure to end a pregnancy I’d be grateful. I can understand a first and even a second abortion, but I get confused after that. Late term abortions just kinda piss me off. Unless there is some medical threat to the mother, there are too many people willing to adopt a baby straight from the womb and the compensation is supposed to be pretty good in some cases.
At one site, I found myself in good company. A woman had admitted to having had five abortions and listed what could well be a medically valid reason. She was concerned about possible damage to her uterus.
However, most of the replies were in the from pro-choice and if avatars are sign, female, voices telling the woman to stop even if she had to get her tubes tied. So many pro choice voices but where this woman was concerned, much more pro life in tone. That’s me, I guess… the more an individual uses abortion, the more I’m against HER having abortions. I only need ONE vasectomy. The best comment I read was from an angry person who said, “A lot of women have fought and died for the right you are abusing…. You really make me sick.” She had a real cute avatar.
Nobody is pro death CG, it’s just that some people are pro life at any consequence, and some are pro “quality” of life for the baby and the parents.
It’s a sad balance and my bible says its not for me to judge. But I do vote.
    Respectfully,
    C.
