For more than two decades, political cartoonist Steve Kelley has devoted his attention to public officials the way the radiator grille of a tractor-trailer might devote its attention to June bugs. He has delighted readers by consistently consigning office-holders to the one fate they fear most: that of not being taken seriously.

I think it would be amazing to think there are “average” teenagers who would:
1. Know who Rand Paul is.
2. Understand what a filibuster is.
3. Be engaged enough to read a national news article.

na Obama would just pay him to sit there for a few more weeks and not do the work. This way the kid does not effect the the U6 or is U8 unemployment numbers.

Who is the off topic troll now? If the teen is collecting unemployment (not likely), he is counted as unemployed.

Yes that is what it is, it is not until they drop out after 99 some weeks that they are not counted. I mean come on there are fewer and fewer full time career jobs out there right now, the teen could just sit there.
It will take a Ran Paul to get anything done.

You were claiming the kid was getting paid by Obama to sit there, but not being counted as unemployed. I’m glad you tightened up your logic. I think the U6 number is under-reported, but not under-counted.
I agree that there are far fewer jobs that pay a decent wage. When we had a large base of good paying jobs in manufacturing, we thrived. Those jobs were relatively low skill. A much smaller number of manufacturing jobs are coming back, and they require much higher skills. If we want to restore our working middle class, we need to think about paying people in the service industry more. That’s where the jobs are.
I don’t see Ron, Rand or Rayn Paul being a solution. The manufacturing jobs did not become decent paying jobs until workers, helped by labor-friendly government policies, put pressure on the factory owners.
