^To serve is the key. I’m an Army vet, my son is a Navy vet, and my daughter was a firefighter/paramedic, and is now a registered nurse- all are “service” to the benefit of the country, and yes, freeedom.
My brother was extremely “right-wing”, all for wars (because he worked fo Defense contractors?), yet neither he, nor his sons or daughter ever volunteered to “serve” in either military, or civlian pursuits in benefitting their country.
On this veterans day, also recognize all those other veterans who defend our property, our lives, and our freedoms, and toward peace (like Peace Corps, Vista, Doctors without Borders, etc), not just war.

WE have all served.
