    In this case, I hope the airbags fail to deploy.

    For some reason no one seems to object when CEO salaries bankrupt a company.

    @ossiningaling

    OK, I would object. Now list 3 companies that went bankrupt because of the salary of the CEO.

    Really Rocky? The CEO salary caused Hostess to go bankrupt?

    Here is a different opinion – and from someone who seems to know business.

    @Dycel

    And as long as Congress receives funding from the PACs and votes to protect them, instead of “We, the people,” we are screwed.

    Let’s not forget to add “venture capitalists” to the group. They buy a failing company, create a marketing environment to attract more investment money, which creates the unfortunately-artificial appearance that the company is making money, which creates even more ill-advised private investment. Then they sell off assets, and pay their own “fees”. Oops, nothing left over. So sorry about losing your jobs. You just THOUGHT we were there to help the company…..

    No management driving that car? Get serious. You think a small coterie of people didn’t knowingly lay the pavement that led to that cliff, and fill the tank, and start the engine, and turn the wheel just so? I don’t know where you’ve been working all your adult life, Breen, but it wasn’t in any business I ever worked in.

    Liberal stupidity stoked by envy (lust for “fairness” in their small minds) and self loathing (“Government is my nanny from cradle to grave”.) never ceases to amaze me.

    while I agree that “greed” is the essential ingredient in the problem, I do not agree that “fairness” is a “liberal attribute” absent in conservative makeup.

    Life – in general – is NOTFAIR”. If it were then everyone would be born into the “middle class” and would have all options available to choose from. Of the 7 billion plus living today, few are born into a comfortable situation. It just isn’t “fair”.

    BUT, you are born with basic rights. Among them life, liberty and the ability to pursue happiness. Sound familiar?

    I should know. I was the son of a single boat fisherman. Fair was not our starting point. Hard work and opportunity was.

    but I suppose since I worked hard and took care of my family and can now take care of my needs right up until they burn me up and scatter my ashes (already paid for) it’s only “fair” that I and others like me (conservatives) pay for the mistakes of those that failed in their pursuits.

    So go ahead dude, make laws that limit CEO pay, rule that a specific percentage of company profit must be given back to the workers, regulate that all profit is tax and that only “X” amount belongs to those that earned it.

    But who decides what is “fair”?

    “OK, I would object. Now list 3 companies that went bankrupt because of the salary of the CEO.”

    The CEOs in Detroit were completely unable to adapt to market changes brought about by the gas crisis in the 70s. Total incompetence in management led to cars like the Pinto, the Nova & the Gremlin. Adversarial attitudes between management & workers led to overall low production quality & efficiency.

    I guess that doesn’t make a funny cartoon, though.

    Good points. We know that laissez faire ain’t always fair, but sooner or later, centrally planned economies always implode.

    Thank god there was no mismanagement! No bad judgment! No missing-the-market! Our leaders are great and deserve to be wealthy!
