if they let them in, they almost have to let in Pete Rose. At least his playing numbers were not tainted.

MLB is corrupt and unbalanced already. Who cares?

I would love to see Charlie Hustle get in, especially after how Steinbrenner was treated. Unfortunately, gambling that happened after it was defined as wrong is a reason not get in to the Hall, but steroid use that happened prior to any ban was not.

Sometimes fame comes with some sort of asterisk?

I’m not aware of a single instance where Pete Rose bet against his team, threw a game, or softened up to allow an opponent to cover a spread. He was a fierce competitor, and it’s my understanding he bet ON his team. Please correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t think that deserves a life time ban the way it would if someone threw a game to win a bet (Black Sox). Thoughts?

it’s a business. Where does Congress get the idea it has any say in baseball?

I have no doubt that Pete Rose will get into the HOF. The ;powers that be will simply make sure he does not live to see it happen.

It’s not “A business” Baseball has rules that ONLY it has. It is a “trust” not a business. And in return for that exemption from the Trust Bust of the early 1900s’ Congress DOES have a say into what happens in Baseball.
.
That’s just the fact of the matter. You would know it if someone told you about it before. But now someone has, and you can go look it up for more information. But you no longer have the excuse of ignorance.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a big Pete fan! He played the game like no other. Ask anyone on the 1990 Reds and they will tell you he was the person who put them together. BUUUUUUUT I also watched the games of 1989. Here is the problem. Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. Pete was playing some games like they where the 7th game of the world series. Those games I would bet he had money on. That alone tells me it did effect his management and playing. It pains me to say it but Gambling in baseball almost brought the sport to it’s knees. That is why the penalty is so harsh. Pete got what he deserved.

The no monopoly and other regulation are part of congress control. There are very real reason for congress to step in at times for the game of baseball. But I do not think the hall is something they can do about it.
