Here’s an idea; ban assualt weapons, and back it up with assault weapons! Give the gun dealers a choice; voluntary surrender, or death! Apply to them the same ‘logic’ the NRA uses!

And I presume by your logic we should just burn the Constitution and ignore the rulings of the Supreme Court? Of course it is much easier to sling insults and inflammatory remarks that do nothing but increase the divisiveness that exists in this country.

That was interesting. I read most of it.

The link to the SCOTUS blog at the end of the article you link to is very interesting. Of course there will continue to be debate over the AR issue, which will end up in court, but the Heller decision does provide clarity to many issues constantly misstated and misinterpreted on these pages…

Hmmmmm. Let me think about that. Oh, okay, WHO CARES!!!
What are you, twelve? Your intellectual level of comments keeps decreasing as time goes on and they weren’t to relevant to begin with.

You are grossly overestimating Ima.

First off, our less than intrepid cartoonist doesn’t have a clue what an assault weapon is! Assault weapons are automatic weapons used strictly by our military and police forces. Secondly our inept government tried an assault weapon ban a few years ago which was a farce because no 2 people can agree on just what an ‘assault’ weapon is. And thirdly it is a cheap shot to suggest that somehow the Christian faith is opposed to guns of any sort. Try telling that to any of us God fearing folks down here in Dixie and see what happens!

By the strict technical definitions military assault weapons are “automatic” weapons that can fire as a “machine gun or 3 shot bursts.” Trust me on this one from experience, accuracy on full auto from a shoulder fired rifle is horrible. Aside from that you dump a 30 round clip in about 3 seconds or less. The civilian version of the M-16 assault rifle originally was the AR-15 without the ability to fire full automatic or in 3 shot bursts. Now almost any rifle that emulates that design is considered an assault rifle.
As to Skips comment about agreeing on design, it’s true. California Dept. of Justice solved that problem by mandating all new guns be submitted for examination (paid for by the manufacturers) before they can be sold here.. Believe me they aren’t lax about guns they approve…

Not real complicated, Ban magazines over 10 rounds capacity, make possession of one a crime, people keep the Guns and manufactures make the new magazines for them. Not a lot of cost here. Some will bury a few awaiting doomsday but they will not be in circulation. Low cost, easily understood, simple to enforce. The only big loser is the Loon that would use them to kill innocent citizens.

The most “talented” and qualified shooters in the world go by the motto: “One shot, one kill”. They don’t NEED, or USE, “assault weapons”, rather bolt action rifles with bull barrels that carry a lot of weight for accuracy on a defined target.
So called “assault weapons” are for the angry, without training or talent, or ethical desire to be selective, or moral values on the use of deadly force ONLY on those who truly are “the enemy”. In combat, the purpose of these rifles on automatic, or semi, is to get the enemy to keep their heads down. Machine guns on automatic, are only for killing large numbers of targets, or to be fired from aircraft, where tracers allow you to “zero in” on where you are receiving fire from.
There simply is no rational “civilian” application for these “products”.
