Teachers only teach to the SOL and the other PC crap that is required. Critical thinking is a thing of the past.

Two weeks ago, out of curiosity, i took one of these “standardized tests”, just to see what the whole discussion is all about. It was supposed to be 8th grade, and if i remember right it was for students in Florida.
I’ve been out of school for 30 years (finished “11th grade” in Germany) and thought I might have a problem, but I was able to solve all questions in math and science. I also noticed that the questions LOOKED hard but were actually quite easy to answer once you eliminated all the flim-flam someone put around them (irrelevant information, misleading diagrams).
I’m not sure if that was done on purpose, but I can tell you that every 8th grader in Germany would have been able to solve these tests with a 100% result. Maybe other states test to higher standards, maybe not. Anyway, the point of the cartoon seems fair to me: the U.S. education system mollycoddles the students!

Are you saying the students may cheat on the abstinence test? Keep up the good fight against the braindead libs.

What incentive does a student have to learn? Teachers like Earl who teach global warming lies? Parents who are too busy working to force their kids to get good grades? What is the answer. Ted Kennedy’s sponsored ‘no child left behind’ bill isn’t it. Maybe we should just trash America in comics is the answer? What about the ones that succeed. They need people to serve them burgers and fries and build big expensive houses for them. Not all kids can learn – ever hear of the ‘bell curve’? It’s just getting bottomheavy at the moment and teachers, parents and the students are to blame. O can take full credit for not responding to this national crisis. But he can be ‘more flexible’ after the next election if he wins.
I’m voting for Mitt.

Ima & Harley – the PROVEN poster children for ignorance. Really kids, you don’t want to be this ignorant. Do good in school or you will be destined to post lies, innuendos and stupidity on comic comment forums like them.

The ‘No Child Left Behind’ act was supposed to take care of all this. Whatever happened to that anyway?

The teachers are clearly being paid too much. I hear they can afford TWO square meals a day.

A lot of people who show no particular evidence of education seem very eager to give opinions about it.

The teachers forego dinner to eat pi squared.

pi are not square, pi are round.

Teachers don’t have much choice what to teach – they are told what their targets are, and they teach to the test. This is the legacy of “No Child Left Behind,” a creation not of the the “PC” crowd but of the right wing of politics.

@MortyForTyrant
It’s a fairly simple test. And German schools have always been known for their excellence. I was an exchange student there a little more than 30 years ago. Fortunately, while I was an okay student at home, that was sufficient to allow me to succeed in my German school.
